Vincent Chambers – Biography

Tenor, actor, voice-over artist, entrepreneur, and instrumented-rated private pilot, Vincent Chambers, aka “The Flying Tenor”, is currently developing a new system that assists in foreign language study (entering beta testing November of 2011), developing a new type of job bank for Day Laborers, has started 2 piano rental businesses in California, is recording radio and television commercial voice-overs, and of course… performing opera and recitals with equal zeal!  A life-long musician, his love of progressive metal, heavy metal, and power pop music, and his passion to perform original works as a bassist in several San Francisco Bay Area bands led to a desire to study composition. Not having a “classical” instrument to use for his chosen major, Mr. Chambers began studying voice in group classes at San Francisco City College, and with encouragement of voice teacher Dr. Helen Dilworth, applied and was accepted to UCLA as a voice major, and soon forgot about composition.

Most recently, he performed in a recital of operatic duets and hits – Love, Death and Revenge: The Greatest hits of Verdi, Puccini, Mozart, and Others – with soprano Carrie Hennessey in Chico, CA, accompanied by conductor Robert Ashens. This past May he created the role of Sergei in Shostakovich’s Moscow, Cherry Town, a US premier of this whimsical comedic work that takes place in Russia, circa 1956. Other works on the West Coast include Canio in Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci (West Bay Opera, Townsend Opera), Turiddu in Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana (West Bay Opera), Rodolfo in Puccini’s La Boheme (San Francisco Lyric Opera, Mendocino Music Festival), Eric in Wagner’s Flying Dutchman, Eisenstein in Die Fledermaus with Nevada Opera Theater, and Count Danilo in Townsend Opera’s production of The Merry Widow.

Previous roles performed in the New York area include, Rodrigo in Verdi’s Otello, the title role in Offenbach’s Tales of Hoffman, and a host of other operatic roles such as Nemorino, Beppe (Pagliacci), Alfredo, and The Duke of Mantua. In addition, he also created the role of Ragnar Brovik in a new opera by Martin Halperin at the Theater for the New City in New York called The Scaffolding, as well as Sheldon in a new opera written by Michael Sahl called “Dinner and Delusion” performed at Symphony Space in NYC, and again at NYU’s Skirball Center for NY City Opera’s VOX New Opera series.
